THIS SATURDAY, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY’S YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FINDING A CURE IS HOSTING THE 9th ANNUAL GALA, AND SUPPORT THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY. WE’RE GLAD TO HAVE THE EVENT COCOORDINATOR RACHEL FIELD WITH US ON MID-MORNING. NICE TO SEE YOU. THANKS FOR HAVING ME. TELL US ABOUT YOUR GROUP, YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FINDING A CURE. WE’RE A GROUP OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, WE CALL OURSELVES CURE A GROUP OF 100% VOLUNTEERS AND WE THROW AN ANNUAL GALA EVERY YEAR FOR THE LAST NINE YEARS. THIS SATURDAY IS OUR NINTH ONE. WHAT IS THE THEME THIS YEAR? THIS YEAR’S THEME IT’S HOLLYWOOD SEASON AND OSCAR SEASON, SO IT’S HOLLYWOOD RED CARPET. NICE. EVERYONE WILL BRING OUT THE GALA GOWNS AND TUXES AND SHOW UP. SHOULD BE FUN, RIGHT. SO MANY PEOPLE OBVIOUSLY YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, ESPECIALLY, I FEEL, END UP FEELING THE IMPACT OF CANCER WHETHER IT’S PEOPLE THEY KNOW OR PEOPLE THEY LOVE, IS THAT WHAT MOTIVATED A LOT OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO GET INVOLVED? EXACTLY. WITH THIS HUGE GROUP OF YOUNG PROFESSIONALS IN THE TWIN CITIES CONTINUING TO GROW. THEY FELT THERE WAS THIS GAP BETWEEN THE OLDER CROWD AND THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS CROWD. KYLIE AND I GO TO OUR SHARE OF GALAS TO MC, OFTEN IT’S KIND OF THE OLD MONEY. NO DISRESPECT, OLD MONEY PACE FOR A LOT OF THINGS. WE LOVE THAT. THIS IS A WAY TO HAVE A PARTY, HAVE FUN, AND MAKE SURE WE’RE GIVING BACK, AND LIKE YOU SAID, SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY CANCER. THIS IS THE WAY FOR US. WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? THERE’S SO MANY WAYS TO HELP TO FIND THE CURE. IN THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, IT GOES TO TREATMENT, PREVENTION, DETECTION, AND THERE ARE SO MANY RESOURCES HERE IN THE TWIN CITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS AND PROGRAMS. YOU LOOK AT ALL OF THESE YEARS, WHAT KIND OF IMPACT HAVE YOU HAD? WE HAVE RAISED OVER $300,000. AND HOSTED OVER 3000 YOUNG PROFESSIONALS. THIS YEAR OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE 75,000, AND WE ARE CURRENTLY WELL ON GOAL TO HIT THAT. THAT’S FANTASTIC. ARE THERE TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR THE EVENT. THERE ARE SOME TICKETS LEFT.   1. Having lost a father to lung cancer and also losing a wife who had 3 different primary cancers; breast, brain, and skin, I applaud these young people for their compassion and willingness to help out.

    However, I feel there will be no cure for cancer so long as there is profits to be made by the big pharmaceutical companies, the insurance companies, and the medical industry. They'd lose to much money if they had a cure. A cure is not in their best interests.
