Animal Welfare employee’s ‘dangerous dog’ to stay in city custody

NOT BE GETTING HIS DOG BACK — AFTER THE CITY SAYS THAT DOG JUMPED OVER A WALL AND KILLED A NEIGHBOR’S CHIHUAHUA. THE DECISION FOLLOWED A NEWS 13 SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT… WHICH FOUND THE CITY VIOLATED ITS OWN DANGEROUS DOG LAW. TODAY – NEWS 13’S GABRIELLE BURKHART SPOKE TO THE OWNER OF THE ‘DANGEROUS DOG.’ “… I’m very sorry for the loss of their dog – as far as my dog being a WELFARE EMPLOYEE RAY MARQUEZ TRIED TO MAKE THAT CASE THIS MORNING DURING HIS DANGEROUS DOG APPEAL HEARING. THE VETERINARY ASSISTANT’S AUSTRAILIAN SHEPHERD MIX ‘AURORA’ – JUMPED THE WALL TO HER YARD IN FEBRUARY – KILLING A NEIGHBOR’S CHIHUAHUA NAMED ‘BOOTSY.’ “… the dog was shaking its head back and forth like this with the Chihuahua in its mouth…” “… According to ‘Angel’s Law,’ the city’s own dangerous dog ordinance — if a dog kills a person or pet, the city must take custody of that dog…” BUT A NEWS 13 INVESTIGATION FOUND THE CITY GAVE AURORA BACK TO IT’S EMPLOYEE, JUST A WEEK AFTER THE INCIDENT. “… Attorney: Was the dog supposed to be reclaimed? Officer Hargis: It should not have been…” THE CHIHUAHUA’S OWNERS – LOUIE AND LORETTA GARCIA – WERE AFRAID TO GO IN THEIR OWN BACK YARD. “… she already knows that she can get back and forth over the fence…” AURORA WAS HOME FOR ANOTHER MONTH — AND JUMPED THE GARCIA’S WALL A SECOND TIME. THEN THE DAY AFTER NEWS 13 CALLED ABOUT THE CASE – THE CITY TOOK THE DANGEROUS DOG BACK INTO CUSTODY. “… I got no special treatment. If there was special treatment the case would be thrown out…” MARQUEZ SAYS HE RAISED HIS FENCE AND WANTS AURORA BACK. BUT THIS MORNING – A HEARING OFFICER UPHELD THE DANGEROUS DOG DECLARATION… GRANTING THE CITY CUSTODY OF AURORA. “… I don’t have to worry about my wife or my grandson being back there…” ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT, GABRIELLE BURKHART, KRQE NEWS 13. THE DANGEROUS DOG WILL EITHER BE EUTHANIZED OR GO TO A RESCUE … BUT IT CANNOT BE ADOPTED OUT. MARQUEZ CURRENTLY OWNS THREE OTHER DOGS. THE CITY HAS A MONTH TO DETERMINE WHETHER MARQUEZ IS AN “IRRESPONSIBLE OWNER” … IF THEY DO, THE VET ASSISTANT WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OWN ANY DOGS. YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT THIS CASE AND DANGEROUS DOG LAWS ON OUR KRQE NEWS APP.

  1. He's a very selfish and irresponsible owner! His dog has already attacked the neighbor's Chihuahua and jumped the fence again; he's just going to find another way out and do something worse.

  2. If he like his dog so much … Why is he keeping it outside his place unattended with the only to look at cinder blocks?
