Bemidji Alliance To Keep Complaint Against City Manager Private

THANKS FOR JOINING US. THE GROUP THAT BROUGHT A COMPLAINT REGARDING BEMIDJI CITY MANAGER NATE MATTHEWS TO THE CITY COUNCIL SAYS IT WILL KEEP THE COMPLAINT PRIVATE OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITY MANAGER. THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE SAYS THE 22-PAGED FORMAL COMPLAINT WAS SUBMITTED OUT OF A COLLECTIVE CONCERN THAT MATTHEWS IS NOT PREPARED TO LEAD THE CITY THROUGH THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE COMING YEARS, DUE TO HIS INABILITY TO BUILD TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER PUBLIC, NON-PROFIT AND PRIVATE SECTOR PARTNERS. ON SEPTEMBER 9TH, THE BEMIDJI CITY COUNCIL VOTED 4-3 NOT TO LOOK INTO THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE’S COMPLAINT. MAYOR ALBRECHT AND COUNCILMEMBERS MICHAEL MEEHLHAUSE, EMELIE RIVERA AND NANCY ERICKSON VOTED TO NOT INVESTIGATE THE ALLEGATIONS IN THE COMPLAINT. GARY JOHNSON, WHO IS THE CHAIRPERSON FOR THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL SAID TODAY IN AN OPEN LETTER TO THE BEMIDJI COMMUNITY TODAY, QUOTE, “GIVEN THE MAJORITY OF THE COUNCIL’S DEMONSTRATED WILLINGNESS TO IGNORE THE CONCERNS OF DOZENS OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND LEADERS, THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL BELIEVES THAT CONTINUING TO PRESS ON WITH THIS EFFORT WILL BE FUTILE.” BEMIDJI ALLIANCE LEADERS NOW SAY THEY ARE GOING TO MOVE ON TO BRING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER WITH A NEW INITIATIVE CALLED ENVISION BEMIDJI 2030. THE GOAL OF THE INITIATIVE, ACCORDING TO THE GROUP, WILL BE TO LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY, IDENTIFY A COLLECTIVE FUTURE FOR THE GREATER BEMIDJI AREA, AND DEFINE A CLEAR ACTION PLAN THAT WILL LEAD TO THERE. THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE HAS DEVELOPED A WEB SITE FOR THOSE SEEKING MORE INFORMATION ON THE BEMIDJI ALLIANCE AND ITS PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. THE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND ON THEIR WEBSITE YOU SEE LISTED
