Bystander Revolution: Violeta | Spain Experience

Bystander Revolution: Violeta | Spain Experience

A couple of summers
ago in Spain, I had just made like a new group
of friends in the past year so I really wanted to keep
them because each time I went to Spain, I always
go to the same place, and I never really
had that many friends, so it was great to find
a new friend group. They started hanging out
with these three kids. They were all boys. They were calling me,
like, ugly and we’re not interested in your opinion
because you’re ugly, like we have no interest in
you, like why are you here? It was just a horrible
time in my life. I – it was not a
good summer at all. It really affects a person, like
you just create insecurities in a person that they don’t
really need in their lives. If one person could
have pulled me aside and told me that
everything was okay and that we weren’t
gonna hang out with them and they were on my side,
that would have been great. I think it would have
made a huge difference about how I felt
towards them and how I felt towards the
whole situation. I think one person can really
make a difference in someone’s life just by little things, just
telling them that everything’s gonna be okay and just showing
them that they’re your friends.
