Candidates need to address health, welfare of our children

WISC CHILDREN’S ADVISORY BOARD – KID’S ISSUES 07/03/16 Our WISC
Children’s Advisory Board held its semi-annual meeting recently and as always we learned a lot. We spent some time in particular looking at child care issues, the Youngstar program and the crisis in affordable child care –all serious stuff we’re going to be doing some reporting on. But we also harkened back to our meeting in January which persuaded us to put Kids in the Campaign on our editorial agenda for the year. Rather than us saying it, let us ask you: how many candidates for office have talked about issues affecting children? We could find one mention in the entire Republican platform and that’s streamlining federal funding for at-risk youth and early childhood programs. The Democratic platform isn’t a whole lot better. So we ask one more question: what exactly is more important than the health and welfare of our children? And when will we address that?
