the family of Staff Sergeant Travis Atkins made it back home today to Bozeman two days ago at the White House Atkins was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life to stop a suicide bomber in Iraq MGM’s Cody Boyer was at the airport when his parents arrived dozens here are filling the postman Yellowstone Airport all in pre-emptive for this event now it’s very special for those here in Bozeman but others who came from as far as Idaho and beyond just for the honor we’re so proud to be Americans and and so proud of Travis given the ultimate sacrifice an archway of American patriotism was one gesture of many welcoming home the family of Staff Sergeant Travis Adkins his Medal of Honor in tow this fellow to receive the Medal of Honor is as you know a high high honor and two US military that’s incredible rich English knows service he was a medic in the jungles of Vietnam said that performance that what he did comes from inside and that’s a great credit to his mother to his father and their upbringing the Bozeman high school band honored Travis’s family to [Music] others like the olson’s and the Andersons knew the family well and brought their memories to the terminal Mike Anderson was Travis’s math teacher the staff sergeant sacrifice still hits close to home for him so many times you just see it in the paper and it doesn’t touch you and this one touched us very closely because it was a dear friend and a dear family Jack and Elaine Atkins were greeted by a full honor guard including rich English but it didn’t stop inside a hero’s welcome one that Travis Adkins sacrificed everything for but never got to see there’s a lot of nice guys out there and in the military hey it’s it’s incredible that these guys are still doing this it’s amazing the number of American flags says it alone many of the veterans here say as long as this memory is held on and Travis is remembered then that message will never be lost in Bozeman Cody Boyer MTN news the Atkins were driven home and a three-vehicle a score people lined the road the entire way
