Delaware County Humane Society helping save dozens of dogs from Texas

COLLEEN: RALLYING THE TROOPS TO SAVE DOZENS OF DOGS FROM BEING EUTHANIZED. TONIGHT, ITS ALL HANDS ON DECK AT A LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER– THAT’S OPENED ITS DOORS TO THESE HOMELESS ANIMALS… COLLEEN: GOOD EVENING! THANK YOU FOR STAYING UP WITH US AT 11PM. I’M COLLEEN MARSHALL. MIKE: AND, I’M MIKE JACKSON. THEY SAVE EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS… AND THAT MAY EXTEND TO THE DOG POPULATION AS WELL! MIKE: TONIGHT, DOZENS OF PUPPIES ARE NEARING THE END OF A 12- HUNDRED MILE TRIP TO CENTRAL OHIO– TRAVELING ALL THE WAY FROM HOUSTON. SHELTERS ACROSS THE LONE STAR STATE ARE OVERFLOWING WITH DOGS… MANY WITH NO PLACE TO GO. COLLEEN: NBC4’S JASON AUBRY SPENT THE EVENING AT THE DELAWARE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY, THAT STEPPED IN TO HELP THESE HOMELESS DOGS FIND A SAFE PLACE TO GO, UNTIL THEY CAN BE ADOPTED. JASON? JASON: THE INTAKE OF DOGS IS STILL GOING ON AROUND ME, AND AS YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THESE GUYS ARE CUTE AS CAN BE – EAGER AND LUCKY TO SOON FIND THEIR FOREVER HOME. BECAUSE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE ALTERNATIVE IT’S HEARTBREAKING. “CAGES BEING PUT TOGETHER.” NATALIE YEAGER AND THE STAFF AT THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF DELAWARE COUNTY ARE MAKING PREPERATIONS FOR MORE THAN THREE DOZEN GUESTS. “I KEPT SEEING, WE NEED HELP, WE NEED HELP, THESE DOGS ARE BEING PUT DOWN.” NATALIE RECENTLY CAME FROM HOUSTON WHERE SHE WORKED IN THE SAME FIELD AND HAS EXTENSIVE CONNECTIONS. “I JUST COULDN’T LEAVE HOUSTON AND FORGET ABOUT IT.” IN HOUSTON THE SHELTERS ARE ALL FULL AND AS A RESULT, DOGS ARE DYING SOME OF THEM PUPPIES. “I’M THINKING, I HAVE PEOPLE ASKING FOR PUPPIES TO ADOPT AND WE CAN’T, WE’RE HAVING TROUBLE FINDING ENOUGH FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WANT THEM HERE.” SO SHE WENT TO HER BOSS JANA CASSIDY WITH A PLAN. “I FOUND PUPPIES, AND I THINK THEY CAN MAKE THIS WORK.” THEN SHE TOLD HER THERE WERE 40 PUPPIES READY TO TRAVEL. “I SAID, HOW MANY? ” BUT SINCE IT ISN’T COSTING THE SHELTER A DIME, JANA AGREED TO NATALIE’S PLAN. “WE’LL MAKE IT WORK. WE’LL MAKE IT WORK. IT’S SAVING LIVES. THESE PUPPIES OTHERWISE WOULD BE EUTHANIZED.” WITH ADULT DOGS ALREADY IN THEIR RUNS, THE PUPPIES WILL BE FOSTERED TO HOMES WHO’VE ALREADY AGREED TO HELP UNTIL THERE IS SPACE. “I’M REALLY EXCITED. I’M NERVOUS, I HOPE IT WORKS OUT AND EVERYTHING GOES WELL. BUT, I THINK WE’RE. I THINK WE’RE READY FOR IT.” “IT’S A GOOD FEELING TO KNOW THAT YOU’RE HELPING.” JASON: ALL OF THESE DOGS ARE GOING TO BE FOSTERED FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE GOOD TO GO MEDICALLY BEFORE THEY ARE PUT UP FOR ADOPTION. LIVE IN DELAWARE COUNTY, JASON AUBRY, NBC4.
