Hannah Goodin – Nurse Aide Student of the Month

Hi my name is Hannah, I’m a junior at
Norman High and I take the Nurse Aide class here at Moore Norman. I’ve always wanted to do
nursing; I want to continue that in college so I felt that coming to Moore
Norman in high school would give me an advancement. I thought the class was gonna be just like, basic skills, but we learn vital signs and taking
care of patients, just basic needs and stuff but then once school started we
got into anatomy and med term and it got a little harder than what I expected.
When we first came to class especially like the first month or two it was
really hard getting used to doing all that work that I wasn’t used to at my
high school especially like the more tests and stuff; we had about like three
tests a week so that was hard getting used to and I didn’t think I could
really do it, but then I was a year went on it got easier and I was still
maintaining good grades so I gained more confidence in myself like I could do
this, and this is what I want to do. Vital signs were definitely the hardest skills to learn in this class just because they’re so complex and I feel like the
best ones that I like the most were the ones where we really got to connect with
the patient. One of the clinical sites that we got to go to is the Veterans Center here in Norman and we just helped patients with their basic needs, gave them baths, feed them, and it was a really fun experience getting the real-life
experience and it’s way different than doing classwork and learning the skills
in the classroom. These experiences have helped me, especially going to clinicals, about opening up to people or not being as shy as I used to be. I got my CNA certification and I can actually start working. If I were to work as a CNA I would be able to take vital signs, feed the patients, bathe them, do hair care, nail care, do denture care; it’s more of long-term care settings, rehabilitation
centers, Both of my instructors have taught me that treat the patient as if
they were your family and I’m really gonna take that with me as I continue on
my nursing journey. For my senior year I’m gonna be going into the Pre-Nursing class here at Moore Norman and I’m gonna work towards my AUA certification. After high school I want to go to college for an RN and get my bachelor’s degree.
