In the 1960’s and 1970’s, Japanese society had experienced rapid economic growth. Japanese society became rich economically and due to the changes, life of Japanese people changed greatly. They came to enjoy their private life. Japanese individuals, for the first time could have their own lifestyle and could choose by themselves. These changes, Yamazaki called the beginning of ‘soft individualism’. These changes from ‘hard individualism’ to ‘soft individualism’ showed typically the changes of Japanese society around the 1970’s. But since the 1990’s Japan has experienced globalisation. Such a very optimistic view about society has gradually disappeared.
