Let’s Talk Mammograms

>>Interviewer: Can you tell me what you know about mammograms?>>Well, I know mammograms are a way to get screened for breast cancer. I’ve had 100s of them
in my lifetime. (laughs)>>I know they’re very important. I know not enough people do them, and I know they’re critical
to helping to find, eventually, one day, a
cure for breast cancer.>>So a mammogram saved my life. I’m a breast cancer survivor.>>Interviewer: The last time you had one?>>A year ago November,
last November for me.>>Interviewer: How about you?>>Two weeks ago.>>Interviewer: Okay.>>Okay.
>>Mine’s coming up.>>I go every year religiously.>>Interviewer: Why do you go religiously?>>Because that way I know
that I have a baseline, and if something comes up, it
can be caught early enough.>>Do you know how old
you’re supposed to be when you should start getting them?>>Maybe in twenties, 25, 26?>>Forty.>>Fifty?>>I actually get them every
year since I was 30 because my mom had breast cancer age
of 53 and my twin sister at 39.>>Interviewer: Do you need a mammogram even if you don’t have a family history?>>Yeah, even if it’s not in your history, cause you never know.>>Interviewer: What are
some of the excuses you hear?>>Most of the time that it hurts.>>Interviewer: Do you
think it’s not that bad?>>Nah, not at all.>>I mean it’s uncomfortable,
but it’s certainly not worth missing it and then finding out that you have undetected cancer.>>What’s a couple of
seconds of discomfort, it’s just, ya know …>>Interviewer: What is a 3-D mammogram?>>Well, 3-D is definitely more defined.>>Ooh, now a 3-D mammogram,
3-D is like the entire breast.>>I don’t know the science behind it, but what I do know is this technology gives a clearer picture of your breast, so they’re able to pick out
suspicious things quicker.>>Interviewer: What
would you tell the women who are hesitant about
getting a mammogram?>>Like me? (laughs) (laughing)>>I think not getting a
mammogram is really stupid because it’s just a very
easy step you can take.>>It’s so convenient now, it really is.>>I got mine, now you get yours.>>Let’s stick together and all do it.>>Get her done. (laughs)>>Get moving, you really
need to get it done, it can save your life. (upbeat guitar music)
