*humming an old hindi song No reason for feeling guilty or shameful. Right? Its the first step in the journey of motherhood. Its a feeling of getting a special power to a woman. I can recall the memories of my Rangu maushi [aunt] My mom used to tell her stories always. she was made to sit in a nicely decorated room She was served in a silver plate. neighbours used to bring her sweets and confectioneries to greet her on her puberty she got her menstrual cycle for the first time. After marriage! ” After marriage! ” that’s important. Now a days, we girls are being educated. So marriages are getting delayed. So what? A girl’s ” Sharir dharma” [ biological cycle] will change? A girl should get married before attaining puberty. Such was the mentality of that period. My grand parents struggled to get my godu atyaa [aunt] married. That Means, the reputation of parents got damaged If girl attained puberty before marriage That’s why , marriage first. Then Puberty. And Then Pregnancy. Such was the Traditional sequence in a girls life. But now a days, because of education first Puberty, then marriage The reputation of parents get damaged, If the traditional sequence is not followed Instead of that, she should get married any how in a good family, irrespective of her choice, looks and age of the groom. She had no voice in the family. It was easy to make her sacrifice , Instead of facing the Society. I was staying at Pune with Gondale family. It was my Sister in law’s home Mr. Gondale was a Professor in Fergusson College. He was famous for mathematics and his Rules. He was very strict at home too. I was helping gangu tai [ Mrs gondale] in the Kitchen. Mean while an aged Couple came. Mr Gondale was in College. Gangu tai [ Mrs Gondale ] was attending them. I Prepared Tea for Them. They Started enquiring about me. Because they liked me. They must have thought , that “this girl should get married in our family”. That’s why he came to Ram Wadi [ My home], mumbai And Invited me an my Father It was a good family Anna [ Uncle] knew him. My Parents were happy Even I was educated and mature We went to see him Everyone of their Family was waiting for us And Then he Called….. Makranda, come down stairs….. Arvinda, Vasanta both of you too And then he said [huhh] the one who likes will get married to her. He spoke with innocence. He just wanted me to get married in their family no matter with whom Son? or Nephew? “The one who likes will get married to her”! If you don’t like her , say NO. And Specially my brother was not at all reacting to this. who Insisted me to attend who Makranda? Wasanta? Arvinda? “The one who likes will get married to her”! If one of the boys says yes, then they must have asked for dowry. We came back. I was thinking about the same. I wanted to Share my feelings with Some one. but with whome? No one understood me. I was not Courageous enough to say….. “I won’t marry such boy” They must have said, ” A girl has no right to reject a boy” . So, we must crack the deal and get ready for the marriage… Thank God they rejected me ! and i was relaxed … Guess how many years i have been married to Mr Ram Pathak ? Five ! Now, when debate starts about what one lost or gained… then My Husband yells on me that “You must have married to that guy only…” thats untold guilt of a mans heart… its bound to be expressed… i had been to see the bride for one of my relative… They said that the Girl was being exhibited for the first time to any groom… Fortunately we need not go to other places… That marriage got fixed That my relative was telling their friends that The marriage is not only fixed… I got the Purest “Maal” (Goods or commodity) That means Groom dosent like the girl even if she has met other groom before ??? Why should bride have any problem with that she happens to be the “maal” isnt it ??
