Magpie geese have evolved in a changing environment and they are extremely adaptable. I’m studying magpie goose movements and food resources to improve management strategies in order to conserve them in the future. These birds have learned to use new resources such as mango or melon farms. You’ve got fruit, you’ve got shade, where else would you want to be? I wouldn’t consider them pests, I would consider them a nuisance We know it’s costing us money but you can’t just eradicate everything that is a challenge. If we see it as a one farm effort and if we see it as something localised we’re not going to succeed in the long run. A lot more information needs to be gathered in order to work and live and continue to farm around the presence of magpie geese.
