Pancreatic Cancer Research Sheds new Light

I’m Gabe Garza with today’s health news. Science
has begun to unravel the mysteries of the interaction between genes and environment.
Researchers from Australia found that pancreatic cancer is actually four different diseases.
Genetic research may explain why only some people exposed to certain environmental factors
develop diseases. For example, the American Cancer Society notes that certain cancers
tend to run in families. Since family members share certain genes, they may be more susceptible
to a particular cancer. The researchers discovered that some types of pancreatic cancer are more
similar to colon cancer. Other pancreatic cancers are more like lung cancer. Medications
already available for treating other cancers might be more effective in pancreatic cancers
that are similar. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more research on this subject. Talk to your
doctor about the latest treatments for you.
