In his weekly cabinet meeting Tuesday, President
Moon Jae-in emphasized the importance of the nation’s welfare policy. He said the ultimate goal is to guarantee
a life of human decency for people in Korea. “We need to break away from the charity-like
perspective and understand the policy as core element of the national development strategy.” Expressing his concerns about Korea’s chronically
low birthrate and rapidly aging population, as well as the worsening distribution of income,
President Moon ordered each ministry to actively seek welfare policies that help the people.
