Rapides Regional Health Talk – Look Good Feel Better

(upbeat music) – [Narrator] Health
Talk, brought to you by Rapides Regional Medical Center. Look good, feel better. It’s more than a saying. For women fighting breast
cancer, it’s an essential program sponsored by the American Cancer Society. – Look Good Feel Better
is based on the principle that if you look in the
mirror and you look good, you’re naturally going to feel better. You know, you get up,
you put your makeup on, you put your wig on,
you look like yourself, so you’re gonna have a better day. It’s a wonderful program, in that it helps female oncology patients
with the side effects of their cancer treatment, specifically hair loss and skin changes. Wigs are a huge part of our program. We help a woman to return to
her pre-cancer appearance. – [Narrator] Look Good
Feel Better sessions are every other month at
Rapides Regional Medical Center. In 2009, Forest was presented with the American Cancer Society’s Sunrise Award for his work
with the Look Good Feel Better program in the mid-South region. – To be a Look Good Feel Better volunteer, first of all, you have to
be a licensed cosmetologist. Second, you have to attend an eight-hour training
session, which I was trained. And then once a year I have an update that’s done via conference call. One of the biggest inspirations
in my life is my mom. She’s a two-time cancer survivor. And during her most recent
bout with cancer 13 years ago, she came to the Look Good Feel Better. So she’s an inspiration to me
to keep outreaching to women who are in the need for these services. (upbeat music) – [Narrator] For more
