Relay Recess

Relay Recess

This segment is brought to you by
Turcotte Piper Mortuary. It’s a cold day here at Javelina Stadium
but that doesn’t stop Santa Gertrudis ISD from having their relay recess. The event is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It
allows students to learn about community service and learn how to adopt healthy
habits such as physical exercise to improve overall health. It’s extremely important just as a survivor I know how much it means to us to have people come
out and support the Cancer Association – for research for cancer it’s very
important. As a principal of the school I’m just very very proud of all the
teachers and kids who came out here on this cold day out here we’re gonna cut a
little short so they can get back and get warm and fed and everything but this
is something we do every single year and I’m very very proud of everything they’ve
done. Marcy Cavazos was our team captain and got all this put together did an amazing job. Lots of parent volunteers. We have the
best parents and the best kids in the state of Texas. [Reporter] As of Wednesday January 30th Santa Gertrudis raised over 16 hundred dollars with a barbecue sale and a t-shirt fundraiser. They plan on doing another fundraiser in March.
