SCS high schools team up with American Cancer Society to “Think Pink”


WHY IT WENT THREE DAYS WITHOUT TELLING VOTERS ABOUT THE HEART ATTACK. IT WAS A SEA OF PINK AT THE CENTRAL VERSUS WHITE STATION HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME TONIGHT. THIS MONTH … SHELBY COUNTY SCHOOLS … ARE TEAMING UP WITH THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FOR “THINK PINK” … TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT BREAST CANCER. LOCAL 24 NEWS WEEKEND ANCHOR ANNETTE PEAGLER … JOINS US IN THE STUDIO TO TELL US ALL ABOUT IT. ANNETTE! Annette: KATINA, THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY HAS BEEN STEADILY WORKING TO GET STUDENTS AND FACULTY AT S- C-S INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER. THIS YEAR – 14 HIGH SCHOOLS WITHIN SCS HAVE JOINED THE CAUSE. Candace Dean/ Senior Manager, American Cancer Society : “We know that 1 and 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and so the schools choose to do this to make sure to bring attention to it. The students fundraise through the month of October” DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER STUDENT COUNCILS AT MORE THAN A DOZEN S-C-S HIGH SCHOOLS WILL LEAD THE CHARGE TO RAISE MONEY FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS. Candace Dean/ Senior Manager, American Cancer Society : “They do some videos and some special promotions and then they also honor survivors who are in the school systems, their families some of their teachers AT THESE PINK OUT GAMES IN OCTOBER, THE SCHOOLS DONATE WHATEVER MONEY THEY’VE RAISED. TONIGHT AT THE CENTRAL VERSUS WHITE STATION GAME…CENTRAL DONATED NEARLY $1,800 DOLLARS. AND SURVIVORS WERE HONORED. Elizabeth Ennis/ Community Development Manager, American Cancer Society : “i’m so touched by every different story that I hear…no two stories are the same and so everybody comes and shares what they’ve been through, what they are going through and it just gives you that great feeling of knowing that I’m making an impact” AND THIS INITIATIVE ALLOWS STUDENTS TO JOIN THE MISSION TOO.
