Secondhand Smoke Sensor

Secondhand Smoke Sensor

>>This is the only technology
currently available that can detect airborne
concentrations of nicotine and marijuana?>>We’re using polymer technology
in order to do the sensing. So, the 2 different sensors that are in the
device itself have 2 different polymer films. Each 1 is directed to detect 1 component,
either nicotine or, or marijuana.>>This is our current device. You can see that you remove an outlet cover. You put this device in using the
tamper-resistant screw, and then we put it past through in so you’re only
using 1 spot on the outlet.>>It’s chemistry that’s making it all happen. The rest of it is electronics. While the electronics are interesting, novel
and proprietary, the, the chemistry is, is also very interesting and it evolves from, from all the work that was done
in the lab over all those years.>>So, when it detects smoking
it sends a signal out over wi-fi, and then our back end immediately
alerts customers that someone’s smoking in a prohibited area and it follows it
up with a chart on a normalized scale, showing a measure with the substance. So, you can effectively deter
smoking in an unobserved area. Our initial market focus
will be the hotel market. There’s currently 4.9 million
hotel rooms in the United States. About 4.1 million of those
hotel rooms are nonsmoking. The average hotel has 94 rooms and
experiences about 4 smoking events per month. So, our expectation is that we’ll gain a
foothold pretty quickly in the smoking, in the hotel market and at the same time,
we’ll passively sell to other markets.
