Soldiers Update: Medal of Honor 1st Lt. Alonzo Cushing


On the final day at the Battle of Gettysburg Union Soldier and artillery commander First
Lieutenant Alonzo Cushing refused to retreat the oncoming
Confederate charge and man the only remaining Canon, he was wounded twice before being killed
by Confederate Soldiers. His family received the Medal of Honor
on his behalf. Alonzo was hit and badly wounded, his
first sergeant, a Soldier by the name of Frederick Fuger, urged him to go to the rear, but Alonzo refused and said he’d fight it out or die in the attempt. with
