St. Lucie County Humane Society’s new play yard

Good morning, my name is David Robertson, I am the Director of Administration for the Humane Society of St. Lucie County. We actually have two facilities, both with about 400 animals. At this facility here on Glades Cutoff Road we have about 150 animals. We have close to 65-75 dogs here, we have two play yards and we have a great group of volunteers that take the dogs out and exercise them and walk them in the play yards, unfortunately with so many dogs there’s just not enough space, so we needed an additional fenced area particularly for the smaller dogs to get them out and let them run around in a fenced area and get some exercise. It was just a field, it was just a field, so it’s really really been put to great use. It’s just been absolutely terrific, the dogs can’t dig through it, it stays put, it keeps clean, it’s just been absolutely wonderful we just can’t say enough about SYNLawn, the people at EasyGrass and of course the SPCA International. Having a fenced area like this where dogs can kinda run free really helps us reduce or eliminate some common behavioral problems like digging, chewing and barking. The dogs that come out here on a regular basis we’ve noticed a significant reduction in those types of behaviors additionally just getting out and having some exercise it keeps the dogs happy, it keeps them healthier mentally and physically and also keeps them limber and agile. Certainly we can get more dogs out, more dogs walked and more dogs exercised helping us reduce all those behavior I mentioned previously. When the dogs behavior improves so much as we’ve noticed a difference they become more adoptable. Of course the more dogs we get adopted the better we are. The mission of our organization is to reduce pet overpopulation and we target two areas for that, first and foremost, of course, is spaying and neutering and the second is education. Supported by that in a big way is keeping animals healthy keeping them happy and helping us increase our adoption rates. With the addition of the play yard, we’ve been able to do that. We’ve been able to increase our adoption rates and we have healthier, happier and better-behaved animals. I would really like add a very very special and heartfelt thanks to SYNLawn to Easygrass to SPCA International just wonderful wonderful people to work with its been an outstanding job and also the people that donated “dogs on the park” who donated the rings and the fire hydrant it’s just been an absolutely tremendous operation and we are so grateful. Join SYNLawn together with the SPCA International as we work together to save lives of animals who need permanent homes. For more information please visit spcai.org
