The body is trying to heal itself during that period of time. Your brain is trying to heal from that. Swelling is subsiding. There is a lot under the surface that we can’t see that’s occurring. We call that spontaneous recovery. If therapeutic services can for lack of a better word piggyback on to that spontaneous recovery period then we can maximize the natural healing process. Research has shown over and over again that progress after the spontaneous recovery period is not impossible Progress can still be made and I don’t want patients who suffer a stroke to be discouraged by that because there certainly can be some successful interventions even years after the fact. I mean Jim is 3 years out from his event and still having success. With that being said, the critical period of intervention is the spontaneous recovery period.
