about why we are not on welfare. Well that is simple when you live in a van you can not even get it! But if we could get it.Would we get it?No
probably not because there are too many rules and obligations it is very dehumanizing what they want you to do its almost like slave labour, modern slave labour it is. Yes a lot of people think welfare in the Netherlands is free money from the government taken from the taxpayers to give to the unemployed and a lot of people think: well it is free money and you dont have to do anything in return. But actually you do! yes, and you sign over
to get the money it’s like thousand bucks a month and to get that you need to sign a contract
with the government. Basically a contract with the devil where
you sign away your own control over your live to in the hands of some unexperienced, usually, casemanager. Who basically gets to tell you what you will
have to do every day of the month, every month what you have to do.. Yes all in the name of
the participation law as it is called. Yes they say ok you want this money then it
is only fair that you do something in return. Basically that is! That is true we agree on that. It sounds very reasonable but.. And politics they will tell you that like
the Prime Minister was recorded on television saying well if you just do some volunteer
work in return then we are very gratefull and you are paying your tribute back to society. And we already did that by working when we worked we payed taxes so our money went to other unemployed people so then you think
when you get unemployed you get the same treatment, curtesy yes..So in the politics on the television they make you believe that just pouring coffee to little old ladies is enough for
volunteer work and then if you come there with your list of volunteer work that you
actually can do from the volunteer work sites. And say look I found like twenty volunteer
jobs I can fill in then the case manager says NO! You can not do that because you have to do what I want you to do and he wants or she wants you to do is never what you want to
do it is the opposite of what you want to do. Because their job is to get you out of the
system as fast as possible so they can say less people are unemployed and if they have to make your life a living hell and miserable to get you out of the system then they will do that. There is no equality, you are treated like
it is your fault that you lost your job, it is your fault that you are unemployed. Suddenly you are lacking arms and legs and speech and sight and vision and hearing. And they basically say you are a lump of clay, you are a toddler. We are gonna have to teach you everything
because you are a worthless peace of human and that is basically how it is.. And what bothered us about is that you sign away for a measly thousand bucks you give somebody so big of control in your life that
it makes you yourself feel depressed and miserable. Exactly how they want you to feel! It adds a lot of stress to your life and your
quality of life gets reduced enormously So we were alway asking our self the question
is that worth it? Is it worth it that thousand bucks that you
are getting that hardly pays for your rent and groceries is that worth being treated
worse then a slave, being treated like an animal being treated like a toddler. Is it worth
that to you? For some people.. if you have people who say well for that thousand bucks I have so little education and qualities in life, that I have no skills
i can.. that thousand bucks is the highest money, income I can get, those people they
are willing to be treated inhumanely and miserably and they dont mind it because for them it
is the highest achievable goal. And i am like if i have a good job I can earn
thousand bucks in a day so for me and for Petra being both highly educated and skilled
that is not the highest achievable income that we can have. It is basically a big reason for us to say:
we’d rather feel happy and are in charge of our own lives and have not somebody breathing in your ear or down your neck constantly telling you what you should do, we’d rather fill in
the day for our selves because we have plenty of things to do and we hope that by doing
the things that we like and that we love, like making the youtube videos and spending a lot of time with that and traveling and creating digital stuff: photos and ebooks and magazines. We hope that we can earn an income that way and for us to not be on welfare means to have freedom and control of our own lives. And you dont want to be.. Because in welfare that case manager can say: I don’t like you, you didn’t try hard enough this month, or this day, I
am gonna take away your welfare money. They can do that they can take it away for three months or longer.. And it doesn’t matter what you do if you are to loud they say: you shouldn’t be so loud! and when you are too quiet they say: Ah you are so quiet.. Doesn’t matter what you do, they always find something to nag about. yes you are right. So it is a loose – loose situation every time. Basically you have two kinds of welfare: you have the ‘nice’ welfare.. Because for every year that you work if you worked from your eighteenth until you are thirtyeight then you worked for 20 years. And for every year that you work you build up one month of ‘nice’ welfare. So if you worked for twenty years you can be on welfare for about two years. And it gets shorter if you work less long
you get shorter welfare sometimes one month, two months, three months and they call that the ‘nice’ welfare because the case managers are relatively nice to you. They give you a little bit of control of your
live still and they say well take your time apply to jobs and come back in a month and
we will talk again. thats the ‘nice’ welfare. If you run out of those welfare months that you built up then you get into what we call: the ‘not so nice’ welfare. That is basically where you have the prison
warden. The last resort.. but it is unfair to compair
it with a prison, because we say prisoners get treated better. You have if you get convicted an end to the sentence, you have an end to the punishement that you have to pay back to society, but if you are on welfare you are not! And you can.. We get treated for three or four years comparable to getting out for murder in three or vife years. If you are on welfare you are not getting out. Nope. So you get to be.. you are treated.. you are sent to jobs you dont like picking up toxic waste. Basically every job you do.. because you do
it for free, you don’t get an income. Prisoners get an income, like it is only ten cents an hour ro so, but they get an income. If you are on welfare you don’t get an income, you are forced to do free labour so that’s why we call it free, forced labour, forced slavery. And
that is.. I think slavery is illegal in all senses. So we could take the welfare and then cry
about it or we can say we are not gonna take welfare and be proud about it. And that is
basically how we approach it. Because if we are gonna pick up the paper
in the park or pour the coffee for the little old lady, that means that somebody is not getting
a paid job doing that, so we don’t want to steal jobs away from other people. Cause that is basically how it works.. Yes
and we think that it is very noble of us to try that. But that also means that we are in this
situation of having a very low budget because we don’t want to go into that ‘false ‘security’
of the welfare because they will tell you you have to stop the vanlife, you have to
go do this, you have to go do that and you have to go on all kind of courses to learn things
you allready know and the courses are given by other people on welfare who are unmotivated to give you the courses and it is a very crappy system and that is why we chose not to be
in that system. And some people say that we are crazy for
that. They say: well you just do that and usually people who say that, they never ever where one day in welfare themselves. And if it are people who are on welfare, usually there is a big shaming on that so they will say: Nah it is not so bad because they don’t
want to tell you that they are crying their eyeballs out at night. Well it depends on the city or village ofcourse. Yeah that is also true, you have the big cities with lot of cultures represented a lot of people on welfare they are very strict! In Amsterdam they are very strict, if you go
to the little village in the south where i grew up they are very lenient, they are very
mellow. It is very different, if you go to the east of the country it can be very different. Because every city is allowed by the national government. Every city is aloud to fill in
the welfare policy basicallly as they want, as they see fit. So that means that a lot of
power is given to a case manager and if a casemanager can say: if you don’t do what I say, if you don’t jump high enough or crawl deep enough I am gonna take it away that is threatening, they threaten your existence. So we say don’t put yourself in that position
to begin with. You don’t want to give away the control over your life. The whole word ‘social security’ is a lie. It
is a lie, there is no cake.. Yes it is.. The more people go on welfare the higher the pressure is on the taxpayers, on the working people to pay for all that. So basically it
is not like a magic machine that just makes free money, it puts presure on the taxpayer and maybe it would be different if we didn’t have an education or didn’t speak the language or if we where disabled, but we think we have enough skills. We are not the kind of people that happily give over control of our own lives. We think being in charge of your life
yourself is very important because you don’t know how much time you have on the planet. And like i said in the other videos you don’t want your final day to be a day that you where doing, following orders basically from some stranger telling you to do some degrading
job. You don’t want to be that day to be your last day on the planet, you want it
to be a day that you are doing what you like. We are doing what we like for 18 months now and yeah that is what we love. Even though it means now, having to deal with less money because of that, it is not an option for us. Maybe the same way to understand this: A
lot of people don’t understand this, but it is the same way that you don’t choose to rob a bank for your money, or to rob a grocery store for money. There is a store here nearby, if we need money we are not gonna go rob that store to get the money so that is a choice, we choose because it is wrong to steal from other people and threaten them and everything. So we are not robbing other people we don’t wanna steal from other people so that is not even an option for us to go rob a bank. It
is the same if people say why don’t you go on welfare? Imagine they would say: why don’t you rob a store? It is wrong! That is why we don’t rob the store and welfare the way the system works at the moment is wrong and it is the inhumane treatment that is wrong, the slavery aspect
of it is very wrong, very questionable. That is wrong so that is not even an option
for us. So that is important to understand because we don’t use those things because they are morally wrong. And we have to live with ourselves and we
want happy times for ourselves and not depressing times. So how can you create more happy times? By not going into, voluntarily into depressing contracts or situations. If possible don’t go on welfare because they make your life a living hell especially in the big cities. That little amount of money you get per month is really not worth it. Totally not. It is a scare policy and in that sense, yeah
you can say that it is effective, because it scares off intelligent people and that way we can also consider it as a compliment that we are intelligent enough not to sign a deal with
the devil. It is a scare policy and that is a shame. Yes
they try to make you dependent on an amount that is ridicilous ofcourse. Yes it is like what they call, this circle
they just give you enough to survive so you will be totally dependent on them and therefor willing to do everything they demand of you. And because you always fear the sword of that they will say we are gonna cut you of for a few months which is very hard to survive on if you are being cut of, don’t give them the power unless you absolutely have to. And we are a bit lucky
in that sense we don’t have a mortgage to pay, we don’t have kids who go to school who we have to care for we don’t have any pets that will suffer if we can not buy pet food for
them. We have said: we are willing to go with less
because we think we can make more in the long run. And that can be from the jobs that we can
get, the products that we can sell or the support that we get from you guys! Exactly. So maybe.. Sometimes in the comments we read those kind of things: that people say why don’t you just go on welfare and that is always from people who never ever been on welfare for one day in their lives. And they just believe in the lies that the politics tell them on the television. and I would tell those people turn off the
tv and if you haven’t experienced it, don’t talk about it, because you are just talking BS
out of your wrong hole. Exactly. And that is coming from the van today! Like, subscribe, share, support us on Patreon. You know it is the right thing to do! Yeah. Ho wait a minute don’t be clicking your next
