Volunteers needed at the Hawaiian Humane Society

WELCOME BACK TO “LIVING 808.” ADOPTING A PET IS A GREAT WAY TO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED. ANOTHER WAY IS WORKING A FEW HOURS A MONTH AS A VOLUNTEER IN ANY ONE OF HER PROGRAMS. HERE TO TELL US ABOUT THAT IS SHARON SAGAYADORO FROM THE HAWAIIAN HUMANE SOCIETY. THIS IS LILA. LILA IS A LITTLE NERVOUS. I CAN FEEL HER SHAKE AGO I COMFORT HER. TELL ME BECAUSE VOLUNTEERING AT THE HAWAIIAN HUMANE SOCIETY IS SO IMPORTANT. CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT YOU GUYS ARE EXPECTING? WE’RE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS IN ALL ROLES. WE HAVE A VARIETY OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. WE HAVE SHELTER VOLUNTEERS. WE HAVE OFFSITE ADOPTION VOLUNTEERS, FOSTER FAMILIES. WE ALSO HAVE PET VISITATION TEAMS OF VOLUNTEER TEAMS AND THEIR OWN ANIMALS THAT DID THE FACILITIES LIKE HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS. IT’S SO IMPORTANT, WHAT DOES IT MEAN SO HAVE THESE TYPE OF VOLUNTEERS COME DOWN TO THE HAWAIIAN HUMANE SOCIETY BECAUSE IT REALLY IS IMPORTANT. THEY PROVIDE HANDS-ON ASSISTANCE TO THE SHELTER. THEY DO SO MUCH BEHIND THE SCENES. THEY ALSO HELP US WITH OUR GUESTS AT THE SHELTER. YOU CAN VOLUNTEER, YOU CAN INTERN BUT YOU DON’T REALLY GET INVOLVED. HOW INVOLVED ARE THE POSITIONS? WE HAVE DOG WALKERS. ENRICHMENT VOLUNTEERS THAT THEY DO PROVIDE ENRICHMENT FOR OUR DOGS, CATS, OUR SMALL ANIMALS. CAN YOU TELL EVERYONE THESE ARE THE ONES WE’RE FOCUSING ON TODAY. SHELTER HER VOLUNTEERS, WE’RE LOOKING FOR FOSTER FAMILIES AND TEAMS AND WE’RE ALSO LOOKING FOR ALL SORTS, OUR BACKUP HOUSE OPERATIONS. WE HAVE LAUNDRY, DON’T AILINGS, VOLUNTEERS, CLINIC VOLUNTEERS WE’RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR. SOMETIMES FAMILIES WANT TO GET INVOLVED. CAN PARENTS BRING THEIR KIDS? WE ENCOURAGE IT. WE HAVE LOTS OF FAMILIES. WE HAVE A FAMILY THAT COMES IN EVERY THURSDAY, THEY DO LAUNDRY. IT’S A MOTHER WITH TWO DAUGHTERS BUT THEY LOVE COMING IN. IT TEACHES GREAT LIFE LESSONS. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY SO I LOT OF OUR VOLUNTEERS ROLE HAVE DIFFERENT AGE REQUIREMENTS. MOST ARE 8 TO 17-YEAR-OLD WITH A PARENT AND THEN INDEPENDENT. SO YOU BROUGHT LILA. TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT LILA TODAY BECAUSE SHE IS UP FOR WE HAVE HER AS A TERRIER MIX, SIX MONTHS OLD. SIX MONTHS OLD TERRIER MIX. VERY LIVELY. SHE’S A LITTLE NERVOUS RIGHT NOW, BUT, MAN, SHE WAS WAGGING HER TAIL. SHE LOOKED SO HAPPY EARLIER AND SHE FEELS LIKE SHE’S CALMED DOWN A LITTLE BIT. LOOK AT LILA, EVERYBODY. YOU WOULD BE CRAZY TO NOT WANT A DOG LIKE THIS AND THERE ARE TONS OF DOGS AND CATS. TELL ME ABOUT HOW WE CAN FIND MORE INFORMATION OR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO VOLUNTEER CAN APPLY. WE’LL HAVE APPLICATIONS ON OUR WEBSITE. ON OUR VOLUNTEER PAGE WE HAVE ALL OF OUR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS FOR THE DIFFERENT VOLUNTEER ROLES. THIS IS SO GREAT. YOU’VE DONE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS. I KNOW MIKEY WAS TELLING ME YOU’VE DONE A FEW DIFFERENT THINGS BUT HOW GRATIFYING IS IT TO WORK FOR THE HAWAIIAN HUMANE SOCIETY. WE’RE PET LOVERS HERE ON THE SHOW AND WE KNOW THAT YOU AREN’T — IF YOU ARE AS WELL — IF YOU’RE A VIEWER THAT LOVES PETS TIME, THE HAWAIIAN HUMANE
