Words of Kwanzaa

[ROBERT TRENT VINSON] For Africa, the
motherland, cradle of civilization. For our ancestors, and their courageous
spirit. For our elders, who sacrificed much
for us. For our youth, who represent our hope
for tomorrow, and tomorrow’s tomorrow. For our people, the original people
of this earth. [EBONY EXPRESSIONS] ♪♪ I need you. You

a story, and when a body moves, a story becomes, and when it becomes it breathes, it
breathes and it bleeds. To rhythms unsung, and to beats
stamped out, you can try and quiet them but damn
do they shout. Do they move, shake and groove to
melodies unheard, to ancestors’ silence, through movement, free as a bird? [VICTOR ADEJAYAN] Instead of fighting
amongst ourselves, we need to stop
degrading our women and, instead, learn to properly appreciate their beauty. Instead of putting down our men, we need to fight for them in a world
where they are being targeted from
every angle. [JOHN EZZARD] It’s time to stand up.
Stand up! It’s time to go, because if we
want change, we have a collective responsibility to
be that change that we so desperately
seek. [MEMBERS OF NPHC] The pride of a
black man is all he has at times, but his powers are sublime. it’s what allows him to be at once in prison and free. [SAMANTHA BOATENG] I wish each and every
one of you the strength and the courage to create space, claim space, infiltrate
space for your voice to be heard, your
thoughts acknowledged. [EBONY EXPRESSIONS] ♪♪ Come with me.

struggle of black people around the world. For Umoja, the principle of unity, which
should guide us in all that we do. For the Creator, who provides all things,
great and small. That is our libation for our
Kwanzaa event. Thank you for listening. [Applause.]
