‘York In 30 Seconds’ – Constantine The Great – York

Hello welcome to ‘York in 30 Seconds’. I’m stood outside York Minister which you’ll see by the scaffolding is always in a state of being rebuilt but more importantly I’m stood beside a statue to Constantine the Great. He was here in 306 AD with his father the Emperor who died here. So the soldiers proclaimed him as the new Emperor. It took him until 326 AD to consolidate that because there were other claimants to be the Roman Emperor and he lived until 337 as the Emperor. Probably his lasting achievement is, however, the making of Christianity acceptable throughout the Roman Empire and we all know how popular that went on to be. Catch you later
